The Complete Hair Transplant Guide

A hair transplant moves your own follicles from a donor area — usually the back of the head — to thinning areas, using techniques like FUE, DHI and Sapphire FUE. It's an elective procedure done under local anaesthetic, suited to stable loss with adequate donor supply, and the result builds over roughly 9–12 months. This guide walks through who it suits, the techniques, cost, the journey and how to choose a clinic — with links to the detail on each.

What a hair transplant is

A hair transplant relocates follicular units from a donor area that's typically resistant to pattern loss into thinning or bald areas. Because it uses your own hair, the results look natural when well planned, and the transplanted hair usually keeps growing long term. It doesn't create new hair or stop ongoing loss — it redistributes what you have, which is why realistic planning matters.

Who it suits

The best candidates have stable, pattern-type loss, a healthy donor area and realistic goals. People with very limited donor supply, active scalp disease, unstable rapid loss or expectations of teenage density may not be suitable, or may be advised to try medical treatment first. Suitability is a clinical judgement made at an assessment.

About

Techniques, in brief

FUE extracts grafts individually and is the all-round foundation technique; DHI uses an implanter pen for fine control in defined areas; Sapphire FUE refers to the blade used to open channels. The right choice depends on your case, not on which sounds most premium — the techniques page compares them properly.

Cost and the journey

At Natural Hair Turkey the cost is one of three package prices, between €1,600 and €2,100 (approx. $1,850–$2,400), whichever technique is used and for up to 5,000 grafts; the plan itself is confirmed after an assessment. The trip itself is short — often around three days for consultation, procedure and an early check — and aftercare over the following weeks protects the result.

What recovery involves

Recovery is more straightforward than many expect, but it asks for care in the first couple of weeks. The recipient area is pink and forms small crusts around each graft, the donor area feels tender, and mild forehead swelling can appear in the first few days. Most people return to a desk job within a few days, follow a gentle washing routine from around day three, and see scabs clear within one to two weeks. Strenuous exercise, swimming, saunas, alcohol and direct sun are usually paused for a few weeks. The transplanted hairs then shed before regrowing — a normal, expected stage rather than a setback.

How to choose a safe clinic

The single biggest factor in a good outcome isn't the country or the device — it's the clinic and the people in it. Because standards vary widely, it pays to treat any shortlist as a starting point and vet each clinic on what actually affects your result and safety. Clear, written answers are a good sign; pressure, vagueness and prices far below the rest of the market are not.

Confirm who assesses you, who designs the hairline and who performs each stageAsk for an assessed graft plan for your case — not a fixed number quoted before any assessmentCheck how sterilisation, aftercare and follow-up are handledAsk to see genuine, consented, dated before-and-after cases similar to yoursBe wary of guarantees, 'best clinic' claims and anything that sounds too good to be true

Results and choosing well

Transplanted hairs shed first, then regrow, with the fuller result appearing over about 9–12 months; individual results vary. The biggest factor in a good outcome is the clinic you choose — specifically genuine surgeon involvement, an assessed plan and real, consented before-and-after cases. Vet those before you book.

FAQ

Common questions

How does a hair transplant work?
Follicular units are taken from a donor area resistant to pattern loss and implanted into thinning areas under local anaesthetic. The transplanted hairs shed, then regrow over the following months. It redistributes your own hair rather than creating new hair.
Is a hair transplant worth it?
For suitable candidates with realistic expectations it can restore natural density and framing. It isn't right for everyone, and it doesn't stop ongoing loss, so it's often planned alongside maintenance. A personal assessment is the honest way to know.
How long does a hair transplant take to grow?
The transplanted hairs shed within the first few weeks, regrowth typically begins around month four, and the fuller result develops over roughly 9–12 months, sometimes maturing beyond a year. Judging the outcome too early is the most common reason people worry unnecessarily. Individual results vary.
Are hair transplant results permanent?
Transplanted follicles are usually taken from areas resistant to the hormone linked to pattern loss, so they tend to keep growing long term. Your existing, non-transplanted hair can still thin with age, which is why a surgeon may discuss a longer-term maintenance plan alongside surgery.
How much does a hair transplant cost?
It depends on the package you choose — not on the graft count (up to 5,000) or the technique. See the cost page for the three packages and what each includes.
Does a hair transplant hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, so most people feel little during it beyond the initial numbing injections. Afterwards, some tenderness, tightness or mild swelling is normal and usually settles within a few days. Everyone's experience differs, and your clinic will explain pain relief and aftercare.
How many grafts will I need?
It depends on the area and degree of loss and on your donor supply, so the number is set at a personal assessment rather than from a web page. A hairline restoration needs fewer grafts than covering the crown or advanced loss. Online calculators give a rough indication, and we confirm the plan.
