Patient Safety

Travelling abroad for treatment can be safe and rewarding, but it carries real risks that are easy to overlook when a price looks attractive. This page brings together the safety principles that run through all of our guides.

Before you book

Take the time to vet the specific surgeon and facility, get an itemised written quote, and understand the risks and recovery for your treatment. Never choose on price alone for anything where technique and safety matter.

  • Confirm who performs your treatment and their qualifications
  • Confirm the facility is accredited with proper monitoring
  • Get the risks, aftercare and revision policy in writing
  • Plan how complications would be handled once you are home
  • Ask how instruments are sterilised and whether single-use items are opened in front of you
  • Ask which signs of infection to watch for afterwards and who to contact if they appear

Red flags

Be cautious of guarantees of a perfect or risk-free result, prices far below everything else, pressure to decide immediately, unclear answers about who treats you, and no plan for aftercare or complications.

Aftercare and continuity

Some of the biggest risks of treatment abroad appear after you fly home. Arrange follow-up, keep full records of what was done, and know who to contact — locally and at the clinic — if something goes wrong.

Not medical advice

Everything on this site is general information for international patients, not medical, dental or legal advice, and it does not create a clinician–patient relationship. Always confirm your options and suitability with a qualified healthcare professional in person before making any decision.
