Hair Transplant After 6 Months
Six months after a hair transplant, the result usually becomes noticeable. Roughly half to two-thirds of the expected regrowth has typically come through, the new hairs have thickened from their early wispy stage, and the hairline and density take clearer shape. It is a genuine milestone, but not the finished look — hairs continue to thicken and the crown often catches up over the following months. Individual results vary.
A visible milestone
By six months most patients can clearly see the transplant working. The fine hairs of month three have grown longer and thicker, the hairline is filling in, and areas that looked patchy earlier are becoming more even. For many, this is the point where the change is obvious to others too, not just under close inspection.
What's still developing
Six months is a strong stage, but it is not the final result. A meaningful share of hairs is still maturing — gaining thickness, length and pigment — and coverage continues to improve. The picture keeps getting better for months yet, which is worth remembering if you are comparing yourself to a fully matured result.
If your result looks uneven at six months
Not every six-month result is uniformly full, and that is usually fine. Because follicles activate and thicken at different rates, some areas can look ahead of others halfway through the journey — most often the crown lagging the front. Uneven coverage at this stage typically evens out as the remaining hairs come through and thicken toward the twelve-to-fourteen-month mark. Persistent, clearly patchy areas are worth reviewing at a follow-up rather than assuming the worst.
Keeping perspective
Your six-month photos, compared to baseline, usually show the clearest progress so far. It is still worth holding off on a final verdict until the result matures. If the crown or a particular area looks behind the rest at six months, that is often simply timing rather than a problem — your follow-ups can review anything that concerns you.
